I Will Wait: The Art of Haley Marie Hennier

Writer's picture: Degen MagDegen Mag

My name is Haley Marie Hennier, and this is my latest work, “I Will Wait”, a new piece crafted in a traditional medium.

While I’ve been a practicing digital designer/motion designer for many years now, I’ve been yearning to get back to the basics. A good friend sent me a good song, leading me down a rabbit hole of meditation and reflection. The quiet reservation of “I Will Wait” by the folk-pop band Bombadil, stirred a familiar feeling in me, of love and loss. The feeling of standing alone, looking upon our vast world, and yearning for movement. I wanted to capture that moment of stillness, that calm before the storm.

This scene is a moment in time.

The work was initially done in graphite, and then layered with charcoal to reach deeper shades of black. Finally, in a leap of faith, I added touches of white acrylic to bring out the highlights. I was heavily inspired by German artists Albert Beirstadt and Caspar David Friedrich, and the romantic tones of their landscape work.

You can see a breakdown of the full process, and more of my work by following me on Instagram @haleymariehennier.
